A Raleigh woman was fatally shot in her home Friday afternoon, and shortly thereafter her daughter was found fatally shot on the grounds of a neighborhood school. Police have declared it a murder-suicide.
Andrew McDaniel, 67, heard a gunshot in his North Hills home and discovered his wife Ida, 64, with a bullet wound to the head. Police reports indicate the McDaniels' 30-year-old daughter, Louise, ran out of the room as he entered.
McDaniel called police, and his wife was taken to Wake Medical Center, where she was declared dead on arrival.
Meanwhile, police went to Lynnwood Park Apartments, where the daughter lived but she did not arrive. Dispatchers put out a description of the family's Honda, which Louise McDaniel was said to be driving. The car was spotted at Brooks Elementary School, and shortly thereafter Louise McDaniel's body was found on the playground. She had a bullet wound to the head, and a small-caliber revolver was recovered nearby. Police were the only ones on the scene and they sealed off the area.
Still unclear are where the daughter got the gun and what motivated the shootings. Police said the daughter had been receiving psychotherapy and had been on medication
