Raleigh Company Offers Interactive Insurance Solutions

Posted Updated

RALEIGH — Storms and auto accidents often bring claims against insurance policies. Filing those claims can be a hassle from getting the information together, to waiting on the phone for a claims agent.

Now, a Raleigh company is trying to make things easier for insurance companies and policy holders. As technology reporterTom Lawrenceexplains, the Internet may be the fastest way to deal with your insurance carrier.

Downed limbs, fallen trees and water-damaged homes... and, hopefully, insurance coverage. However, you must file a claim to get repairs started.

A new service byCSR Onlineoffers an alternative to reporting a claim by phone. If you're covered by an insurance company using the service, you can file a claim any time, day or night.

"Grocery stores are open 24 hours a day. We now can shop online and order from Amazon.com at any time," says CSR's Reed Phillips.

CSR's Web site gives visitors an idea of how insurance companies get the information.

"For a two-car collision it would probably take 15 to 20 minutes to enter this transaction," says Phillips.

Actually, it's pretty much fill in the blanks. For auto claims, a graphic helps describe what was damaged.

CSR did a lot of work making sure online forms are user-friendly and fill the needs of insurance carriers.

"There are some regulatory issues, but in terms of capturing the information, they will have the information and you would not have to give it again, just have to review it," explains Phillips.

Phillips says most people prefer to file claims by phone now, but with the growth of the Internet, more of us prefer online transactions.

Two large insurance companies have already signed on for CSR Online's service and others are expected to follow.
