Since broadcasting a national dishwasher recall for certain models, WRAL TV news has received many inquiries from viewers who missed the numbers and want to check their units.
About half a million Kenmore and Whirlpool dishwashers are being recalled because wiring in the door latch can overheat and lead to a fire.
The dishwashers were sold between June 1991 and October 1992.
Kenmore models involved start with the numbers 665. If you own one of these dishwashers, call Sears at 1-800-927-1625.
Whirlpool models affected begin with the codes DU8; DP8; DU9 and GDP. Call Whirlpool at 1-800-874-9481,
If you own one of these washers, it's recommended you stop using them until they can be serviced. Both companies will repair the dishwashers free
