North Carolina Is 'At Your Service' With New Web Site

RALEIGH — North Carolina is "at your service" anytime, day or night.NC @ Your Serviceis the state's jazzed-up Web site.

NC @ Your Service was unveiled before state leaders Tuesday, touted as putting North Carolina in the forefront of e-government.

"I think it's going to put our state government here in North Carolina right at the top, in terms of how we are serving the people of our state and getting information," Governor Jim Hunt says.

The new site was developed by thestate,Andersen ConsultingandYahoo!.

The look is definitely Yahoo!, with three major categories serving citizens, businesses and state employees. Links can also take users virtually anywhere.

Once signed on, online visitors can personalize the opening page, and choose what topics they want to track.

The Yahoo! partnership allows for free e-mail and a personal calendar. Those special benefits can be used to access the Internet using public computers, such as those in a libraries.

The state believes businesses will benefit quickly.

"Now that the credit card legislation has been signed, we are just this close to online filing," saysSecretary of State Elaine Marshall. "That is going to really revolutionize how folks do business with the Secretary of State's office, particularly."

In about a month, users will be able to register vehicles and buy State Fair tickets online.
