After signing up onStore2Door Groceries, online grocery shoppers can order anything from meat and produce to canned goods. After submitting the list, John Koelzer, marketing director of the Web site, and his band of personal shoppers head to three area supermarkets.
Koelzer says most of his customers are busy people who do not have time to spend in grocery aisles. He goes the extra mile for quality.
"Sometimes they (butchers) just help me out with picking the best meats," Koelzer says. "That's really what our customers look at to judge our service."
The first delivery is free. After that, Koelzer and his fellow shoppers charge $20 for the work and delivery. He says his average orders run around $125.
"We haven't had anybody fax in orders yet really," Koelzer says. "Everyone does it online, compiling their list on our Web site."
Koelzer delivers the order in his distinctive yellow, refrigerated trailer. One of Koelzer's customers, Sajida Syed, says she is saving money by using the online service.
"This way, I can plan what I'm trying to buy at the grocery store and just submit it when I'm ready and have it delivered," Syed says. "I don't have to fight the traffic."
Store To Door Groceries services north Raleigh. It hopes to expand as orders pick up.
