Aerial Acts Highlight Air Expo

MORRISVILLE — May 5, 1996 - 6:23 p.m. EDT

For the first time in its six year history the RDU Air Expo entertained crowds with aerial acts.

An aircraft static display proved to be a crowd favorite. Visitors were able to get a close-up look at the B-1 Bomber, and F-15 Eagle and other historical aircraft.

One unwelcome side-effect of the event was miles of traffic around the airport. Drivers along routes into the airport found progress slowing steadily as they got closer to their destination.

Some travelers came very close to missing their departing flights.

Mary Hennessy says she spent quite a long time in the traffic.

It is unknown if Hennessy and her baby made their flight back to Rochester, but the air show proved to be a great success with nearly 100,000 people attending.
