RALEIGH — May 4, 1996, 8:45 a.m. EDT

"Up, up and away" is routine at Raleigh-Durham International Airport, but Sunday there will be something special in the air -- AirExpo '96 will be staged at the North Cargo Ramp.

The free exhibit and show will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Among the treats: four aerial demonstrations and lots of fancy aircraft on display. The public will have the opportunity to inspect a B-1 bomber, an AH-1 Cobra attack helicopter, and other planes. Experts will be on hand to answer questions.

The U.S. Army's famed Golden Knights parachute team and an F-16 demonstration from the 78th Fighter Squadron, Shaw AFB in South Carolina are also part of the schedule.

And if you want to see a Cuban Eight, humpty-dump and avalanche loop with a snap roll, be on hand when Steve Oliver takes to the sky with his DeHavilland DGC-1 Super Chipmunk. Oliver and his prop plane are veteran participants in air shows across the country.

Weather should be great, and up to 50,000 spectators are predicted to attend
