Police Have Few Leads in Cemetery Vandalism

Residents of Selma and surrounding areas are calling it an unthinkable crime, and police say they have few leads into the destruction of cemetery property at the Branch Chapel Church.

Over 75 tombstones in the cemetery were broken or knocked off their pedestals Saturday.

Church members say they won't feel safe at worship until the vandals are caught.

Several weeks ago, someone broke into the same church and stole a fire extinguisher. Soon after that, someone smashed some 40-year-old church windows.

Near the time of the cemetery incident, a nearby cemetery was also vandalized
