CARY — April 26, 1996 - 2:51 p.m. EDT

New details emerged at a hearing Thursday into the case of a Cary man accused of killing his wife last New Year's Eve.

Bill Boychuk is charged in connection with the death of his wife Karen, whose body was found on the ground 45 feet below a bridge on Cary Parkway.

A pathologist testified Thursday that Karen Boychuk was still alive after the fall and was then beaten to death with a blunt object.

Bill Boychuk has said that he and his wife were both hit by a car while walking on the bridge in heavy fog.

His attorneys requested the hearing to ask that the case not be tried as a death penalty case.

That request was denied
