Tuesday afternoon, an employee at a  Fayetteville Rose's store found what appeared to be a severed human hand  inside a plastic bag on a lawnmower seat. Upon examination, it turned  out to be a bear claw.

Police at first thought the body part might have indicated a murder.  Now they think it was someone's idea of a joke, one they don't find to  be funny.

The claw had been skinned and the top knuckles cut off, making  it difficult to identify. Medical experts in Chapel Hill conducted the  examination

Police say a woman was shot in the upper thigh while two men inside the home were arguing. EMS stabilized the woman and took her to ECU Health in Greenville. Both men suffered gunshot wounds during the altercation.
