A man suspected of shooting another man Wednesday on a Durham basketball court walked into a police station several hours later with his attorney.
At about 5 p.m Wednesday, 21-year-old Freddy LaShawn Mack of South Briggs Street was playing basketball on a court in the McDougald Terrace public housing project when he was shot once in the head.
Mack was taken to Duke Hospital where he died.
Hours later, 17-year-old Michael Lamorse Scarborough of East Dayton Street turned himself in while police were interrogating four other men. They had been told the four men might have been involved in the incident.
They were later released and Scarborough was charged with murder.
Several children witnessed the exchange of gunfire, which angered many bystanders.
"It just don't make sense, somebody getting shot like that right out in front of little kids," said one mother who would not give her name out of fear of retribution.
Detective Grant Gilliam said he thinks Mack was shot after his brother and another man argued about a woman
