Air South on Monday announced plans to end service to Raleigh-Durham International Airport on April 30.
The company said the change will allow it to provide additional New York service and service to other new markets. Details of that service will be announced next week, Air South said in a statement.
``Raleigh-Durham has been marginally successful for us, but the truth is, we have very few opportunities to expand service from this areas,'' said Charlie Creech, Air South marketing director. He also cited keen competition for customers traveling to and from Atlanta as a reason for the airline's departure.
Raleigh-based employees of the airline will be transferred to other locations or receive a severance package. Details of those offers were not available.
Customers holding tickets for travel on Air South after April 30 were advised to call the airline or their travel agents to receive a full refund. Those who have already purchased tickets also may elect to re-book with Delta Airlines at a 50 percent discount
