Imprisoned Mother Wants Visits With Son

A woman incarcerated at the Raleigh Womens' Prison has filed suit to gain visitation rights with her six-year-old son.

Kristen Duncan, who admitted to and was convicted last May of smothering her infant daughter to death, is asking the courts to grant her visits with her son, Will (L).

Duncan's ex-husband William, who has custody of Will, was taken by surprise when he found out that a judge would rule on the issue Thursday. He said contact with his mother would frighten Will.

"He never asks for her. He knows that she's in a place where he can't see her. Her visiting with Will isn't anywhere close to being in the best interest of Will," William Duncan said.

There are people who feel otherwise.

Kristen Duncan's attorney says there are psychologists involved in the case who think that it would be best for Will to have some contact with his mother.
