Lane Tree Golf Course

Posted Updated

GOLDSBORO — If you look hard enough, you can find many golfing gems hidden in North Carolina. Lane Tree Golf Club lists Goldsboro as its hometown, but as WRAL's Jeff Gravley found out, today's Dream 18 is a tad outside of Goldsboro.

Golfers in Goldsboro know all about Lane Tree Golf Club, so here is your introduction to the course. One of the most picturesque holes is the par 4, 9th with six tees to choose from.

Pro Greg Casper played it all the way back at 453 yards, but Jeff moved up just a little to 410.

"Quite a bit of difference in yardage as you can see, but a lot more friendly from here than back there," Casper said.

"I need all the friends I can get," Jeff said.

Once you are off the box, the fun really begins as you fire into an uphill 2-tiered green.

"Your approach is minimal, you probably got 20 yards between the two bunkers where the pin is," Casper said.

Casper did have to point out those bunkers, didn't he, because Jeff found one with no trouble.

"Well hitting a wedge on this hole is something I've never done so let's do it," Casper said.

Consider it done, Casper's on the green.

Jeff ends up on a pretty intimidating beach with a touchy elevated shot to the pin, but it is always tough to be too comfortable on the undulating green.

"A lot of places like over here, it goes back downhill so it makes it even harder -- 3 putts are prevalent when you've got a back pin, and you've hit the front tier. I've seen them putt it off the green."

Well both of them survived the bear. Jeff had a 2-putt bogey and Casper was home in four.

If you are tight on cash, it will be hard to top Lane Tree. The most it will cost you to ride on the weekend is $35 and that is a bargain for a course as nice as this. Reporter:Jeff Gravley
