WAKE COUNTY — Some Triangle 12-year-olds are living their "Field of Dreams" this weekend. The Northern Wake Mudcats have advanced to the Pony League World Series in Monterrey, California.
The baseball team fought their way through four separate tournaments with a 14-2 record. They now represent North Carolina as one of the top eight teams in the nation.
"They're as excited as they can be," says head coach Rob Smalling. "It's a tremendous thing to see their faces when they came off the field last Sunday and they knew they were going to California It's been a great experience."
The Mudcats, who are sponsored by the minor leagueCarolina Mudcats, left for California early Wednesday morning.
Their first game of the World Series is Friday.
