RALEIGH — The Carolina Hurricanes want to make their game more enjoyable for its fans. The NHL hockey team announced an ambitious, 125-point"Contract with the Fans"Thursday.

"We have listened for a year. We've tried to find out from the fans what we need to do different, what we need to do better," says Jim Cain, of Gale Force Holdings. "Our job is to respond to the fans, number one, in the Triangle region."

At the Ice House in Cary, hockey fans on the ice and on the other side of the boards Thursday cheered the Hurricanes' willingness to listen and change.

"The food was a big issue because you felt after being a season ticket holder after a few games, it was the same old stuff," says Hurricanes' fan Mike Gill.

The Hurricanes will offer fans several new concession and menu items including a raw bar. A new ticket exchange policy will designate a ticket resale area outside the arena.

They have also scheduled more weekend games and 7 p.m. start times. They will also encourage tailgating and promote less expensive ticket packages.

The goal is to put more fickle fans in the stands.

"All of it, if they make a concerted effort, they're going to really increase their attendance by doing it," says Hurricanes fan Mary McCarthy.

The team also announced several newmini-season ticket packagesto boost attendance.
