Coming Back From Injury Gives UNC's Curry A New Perspective In Athletic Career

Posted Updated

CHAPEL HILL — UNC quarterback Ron Curry says he is healthy after rupturing his right Achilles' tendon last season. Coming back from injury has given him a new perspective about his athletic career.

"It has made me appreciate life in general. Just seeing that everything that you love and care about, that you work for can be taken away in the blink of an eye," he says.

Now just two seasons into a presumed date with stardom, Curry has just scratched the surface of his potential. Injury and a sputtering output has diminished his output. Now, he says times are about to change.

"I don't think you have seen close to the best of Ronald Curry," he says. "I think the new offense will show you a lot."

Curry will direct former N.C. State coach Mike O'Cain's quick-hitting attack -- the one former Wolfpack quarterback Jamie Barnette used at N.C. State.

The Tar Heels cannot afford a slow transition.

"What Mike has to do, our offense staff has to do and Ronald has to do is get adjusted to each other, to make sure that we don't give him more than he can handle," says UNC coach Carl Torbush.

"I want to be 100 percent. I want the team to know the offense and that is what I am demanding of everybody," Curry says.

Curry says if he stays healthy, the Tar Heels have a shot at a national title.
