Since Daytona, Earnhardt has not visited victory lane.
"The last couple years have been real frustrating," 3 car ownerRichard Childresssaid. "We just haven't been able to go like we want to. We've changed people, crew chiefs and different things, but that's no excuse."
Earnhardt is not even a threat anymore. The 3 car has only four top-five finishes in 26 races this year, and that is why he is over 1000 points behindJeff Gordonin theWinston Cup standings.
The guys on the Childress team are watching the Rainbow Warrior dominate like they used to do.
"You know we were in that deal in the late 80s and early 90s with Dale," Childress said. "We've been there so I know what they are going through and what they're enjoying."
Childress Racing will not enjoy success this year, but the team is working hard to be "back in black" in 1999.
