Grand Opening of NCAA Hall of Champions Kicks Off Final Four Festivities

INDIANAPOLIS — Basketball fever is building in Indianapolis with theNCAA Tournamentin town. Many fans got an early start on Final Four festivities with the grand opening of theNCAA Hall of Championson Thursday.

"It's a real good chance for us to tell our story about the beginnings of the NCAA and what the student-athletes do," says NCAA spokesman Mark Bockelman.

People looking for a North Carolina connection do not have to look far. Dean Smith's presence is felt in a big way illustrating the Tar Heels' success in winning championships. Another exhibit features Duke's run in the NCAA Tournament last season.

Fans can also learn about the rich history of the NCAA.

"They spend a lot of time in this building, talking about not only the time in the court, on the court, but the time in class and being a regular student," Bockelman says. "It's important to get the people to realize the entire student-athlete experience."

The Hall of Champions features 25,000 square feet of games and exhibits. The Hall also features a basketball court fans can use to hone their skills.

Admission to the NCAA Hall of Champions is $7.
