Family, Positive Thinking Make Millbrook Wildcats Winners

Posted Updated

RALEIGH — Traditionally, Millbrook High School has a strong football program; that is no different this year.

The Wildcats have plenty to shout about. Last week they beat a tough Fayetteville 71st team on the road.

Millbrook seems to always have good teams and most of the credit goes to 17-year head coach Earl Smith who loves his players and the game.

"This is a family we have here. He's our father, he's basically the man. We listen to him, we understand him," says running back Tyree McClaughlin.

"I have two daughters who I'm very proud of and people ask me, 'Are you going to have a son?' And I say 'I have 120,'" says Smith.

Once again, Millbrook is favored to win the Cap 8 Conference, something the Wildcats are very familiar with. But this storied team wants a lot more in 1999.

"Well, there's always the two main goals and that's to win a conference championship and to win a state championship here," says Smith.
