After a strong doubles showing at the French Open, former Tar Heel Don Johnson stopped by the North Carolina tennis camp to give a little instruction. Johnson loves to give back to his Alma Mater, but more importantly, he loves returning home to Chapel Hill.
"We term it a recharging of the batteries," Johnson explained. "I usually go away for four or five weeks, come back for a week, and I'm ready to go."
He'll need full power in those batteries this week because Johnson and his partner, Francisco Montana, will team up for doubles at Wimbledon.
"Last year, we had a quarter-final showing at Wimbledon, so we're trying to do a little bit better this year," admitted Johnson. "We're striving, hopefully, to make the semi's, make the finals."
Johnson doesn't want to be known as a doubles player only. He also wants to climb in the singles rankings. Many believe he can do that because of his quickness on the court, strength and tremendous work ethic.
"I couldn't ask for a better job," said Johnson, "and I'm having fun while I'm doing it."
That attitude and talent may help Johnson make some racquet on tour.
