Lee is an outstanding shooter, scoring almost 20 points per game, hitting nearly 50% from three-point land and over 90% from the foul line. He's a clutch player, a pressure player who wants the ball at the end.
"I think he has that refuse to lose attitude," says Coach Will Gage. "A lot of people, when it comes time to hit the big shot, shys away from it. He wants the ball at the end of the game. When the game is on the line, he wants to be the one to take it. He wants to take it upon his shoulders. He's willing to take that pressure."
Brooks is an excellent student with a 3.6 grade point average. He would one day like to coach like his dad, Billy Lee, the head coach at Campbell University. Brooks has always been around the game.
"I've heard so many locker room speeches," Lee admits, "when he gets angry with them and tells them what they're doing wrong. After my games, when I get home, he'll tell me what I did good and what I did bad."
Brooks Lee has put in the long hours to be a good basketball player, spending so much time in the off season working on all aspects of his game.
Lee says he shoots 300-400 shots per day in the off-season, as well as lifting weights, doing ball-handling drills, and shooting free throws. It's all in an effort to improve his game.
Brooks Lee of Harnett Central High School is this week's winner of the Extra Effort Award.
