Members of the Turkish American Association of North Carolina collected donations outside local Wellspring Grocery stores in the Triangle on Saturday.
Lien Phan brought a trunk full of brand new clothes and blankets.
"They're asking for a hand, so we just trying to share something with people internationally," said Phan.
The donations will be delivered by a Turkish warship that is docked in Charleston, Va.
But the most critical need is for money. As Triangle residents headed inside Wellspring to fill their grocery carts, they are also reached into their wallets to help the disaster victims.
"They've lived through this three years ago through the hurricane and they can relate to it, and they're doing whatever they can providing help," says Emin Pamucak of the American Turkish Association.
