UNC Football Player Arrested on Drug, Weapon Charges

DURHAM — A UNC football player was arrested on drug and weapon charges Wednesday in Durham at a police checkpoint.

Authorities say 19-year-old Jason Horton of Ahoskie, and two other men, were on I-85 South when they were stopped at the Operation Season's Greetings checkpoint.

Agents and officers took 7.2 ounces of marijuana, two firearms, a set of scales and $3,200 in cash from the vehicle. They also seized the vehicle.

All three men were taken to Durham County jail, but were later released after posting bond.

Horton faces charges of carrying a concealed weapon, possessing with intent to sell and to deliver marijuana, maintaining a place for controlled substances and possessing drug paraphernalia.
