Online Shopper Upset With Toys 'R Us Web Site

Posted Updated

DURHAM — With two days until Santa's sleigh takes off, one Cary family has been forced to fight the crowds to finish their Christmas shopping. They ordered online weeks ago and finished their shopping, butToys 'R Us.comis not delivering.

Crowded malls and parking lots drive people to shop on the Internet.

Wayne Riley ordered his kids' presents through Toys 'R Us.com on Dec. 7. He recently found out, the gifts are not coming.

"I found it out on Dec. 22, three days before Christmas, and I was pretty mad," Riley said. "It's a catastrophe, for Christmas shopping anyway.

He said he received an e-mail a couple of weeks ago saying everything was OK. The Toys 'R Us Web site even states everything should be shipped in time, but the e-mail he received says otherwise.

"Christmas is the big sale time," Riley said. "You would think that if anybody could get toys in your hands by Christmas, it would be them."

The company even offered to send him Geoffrey dollars to use at their store to try and smooth things over.

"It gives me the opportunity to take that and fight traffic so I can stand in line at their store to try and find what I want," Riley said. "That is the whole reason we ordered off the Internet, so we wouldn't have to do that."

Riley orders several items online, but he says he will never order anything from Toys 'R Us again.

"If it ever shows up, we'll write 'Return to Sender' on the box and put it back in the mail," Clark said.

In the e-mail from Toys 'R Us, the company says their Internet sales have been far greater than expected, and their whole infrastructure has been overloaded with the hundreds of thousands of orders.
