It looked as if it could almost be a normal day, but looks can be deceiving. There was no messing around at Northgate Mall; shoppers knew exactly what they wanted.
"I went inside Hecht's like 15 minutes ago," said Marcous Dunn, "and there were like 15 people in line so I waited then I got tired so I put the shirt I had bought back and I kept walking. So when the mall begins to close up I'll probably go back."
The same thing goes for the situation in the parking lot.
It looked calm enough but the chances of getting a prime parking spot were pretty slim.
"For probably about 10 or 15 minutes I rode around and then I gave up and went upstairs," said Cynthia Spencer. "There was a lot of parking spaces up there."
Since it is the season of giving you would expect shoppers to be buying for other people . But that was not always the case.
"Everybody's buying today because they don't have any time left you know," said Atiya Merchant, owner of Urban Hype. "They'll buy something for somebody else and they'll buy something for themselves, so that's good."
The International Council of Shopping Centers, projects that merchants will see a six percent increase in sales over last year.
