DURHAM — After a three year hiatus, the Durham Holiday parade returned on Saturday. In 70 degree weather, Durham residents lined the downtown streets.

They were entertained by colorful floats and high energy bands.

The parade was just the start of the holiday festivities in the Bull City. On Saturday night, they started "lighting up" Durham.

Arches of light lit up the Durham Bulls Ball Park.

Tom Mounds, who produced movies such as "Bull Durham" and "Fast Times at Ridgemount High" was named honorary chairman ofLight Up Durham.

"Things have changed enormously in Durham," Mounds said. "This has gone from a barbecue-rhetoric town to an Internet center. It has really been a funny transition."

"Light Up Durham is a amazing event," Mounds said. "It speaks to the kind of diversity and combination of business and cultural interests that makes Durham an unique city and gives it a great sense of possibility."

Tickets for Light Up Durham range from $5 to $10, depending on seat location. Reporter: -->Lynda Loveland
