Fire Closes Franklinton High School Indefinitely

FRANKLINTON — TheState Bureau of Investigationis looking into a fire that damaged Franklinton High School and has closed the school until further notice.

Firefighters were called to the school, on Main Street, after the blaze broke out around 11 p.m. Thursday.

A guidance counselor's office was heavily damaged, as were two other rooms.

The area where investigators believe the fire started was remodeled this summer.

They are looking for electrical problems, but they have not ruled out arson.

The school is closed to students until investigators determine the fire's cause.

"We're going to take that on a day-by-day basis," said principal Anthony Davis. "Our maintenance department is putting together an extensive team to come in today and begin looking at what they can do to make repairs and to ready the building for occupancy as soon as possible."
