An undercover narcotics officer with the Granville County Sheriff's Office was shot in the groin when he burst into the home Friday.
As of Sunday, he is listed in stable condition at Duke Medical Center.
The shooting occurred around 6:30 p.m. Friday on Sanders Road in Stem, which is halfway between Butner and Oxford in the southern part of the county.
Granville County Sheriff David Smith said six narcotics officers went to a residence to serve a search warrant for cocaine when something went wrong.
"A vice-narcotic agent knocked on the door," Smith said. "The homeowner came to the door and ran back inside as agents followed him, and a short time later, the agent came back out, saying he was shot."
A 13-year-old who lives in the house was also shot in the neck during the incident. Smith said the teenager is listed in fair condition.
"The shooting will be turned over to the SBI due to one of our officers being involved in the shooting and being shot himself," Smith said.
Because the officer works undercover, his name is not being released.
