CUMBERLAND COUNTY — Going to court can be a stressful experience, even if you are just paying a traffic ticket. A new system in Cumberland County can answer your questions before you even leave your home.

Finding a parking space at the Cumberland County Courthouse is not easy. Getting an answer over the phone can be a trying process as well. It will be a lot less trouble now.

The county courthouse has gone high-tech. A newWeb sitecan help you find out about everything from jury duty to how to pay a fine.

"There are a lot of things that can be done without actually having to come because people don't understand and don't know how to get the questions answered," says trial court administrator Linda Priest.

Lawyers can also download forms from the site. Criminal and civil court calendars are now in clear view -- a cost-saving measure for the clerks' office.

The online calendars are a convenience for domestic attorney Beth Hall.

"It has saved me time as opposed to having to make time to come to the courthouse," Hall says. "I can sit at my desk and look up a court date in a matter of minutes instead of having to make a 30-minute trip downtown."

Marilyn Lamb went to court to find out how to file a small claim. She says she would have looked online for her answers if she knew she could.

"Take this long trip down here and try to find a parking spot. No, I would have done it at home," Lamb says.

Cumberland is the first county in the state to offer civil calendars online.
