The construction of Southpoint mall has a lot of people wondering about the future of the Highway 54 and Interstate 40 corridor.
Residents who live near the area are afraid they will be overcome by development. They came up with their owngrowth proposalthat would limit apartments, buildings, hotels and office complexes to areas near I-40 and away from neighborhoods close to the mall.
Planning Director Norm Standifer says the Land Use Plan on the table at a meeting Wednesday evening balances everyone's concerns.
He says some adjustments will probably be made to the plan, but the overall look will stay the same.
The Land Use Plan will make its first city council appearance in mid-May, then it will be presented to the county commissioners.
