Emergency Room At Person County Memorial Hospital Reopens After Chemical Scare

Posted Updated

PERSON COUNTY — The emergency room atPerson County Memorial Hospitalhas reopened, after being shut down for several hours Wednesday night due to possible chemical contamination.

A CP&L spokesman says two employees started feeling nauseous and dizzy at the Roxboro CP&L plant Wednesday afternoon and were taken to the hospital.

Once they arrived, employees and patients at the hospital began feeling sick.

"We quarantined the area. We started trying to make contact with the emergency room personnel to find out what we had, and it was determined that we had an exposure to possibly ozone," says Roxboro Fire Chief Johnny Gentry. "If it comes in contact with you, it can cause some flu-like symptoms and shortness of breath."

Hospital officials say the two workers are feeling better.

CP&L is analyzing the workers' clothing Thursday to confirm that the two employees were exposed to ozone.
