Garner Standoff Ends Peacefully

Posted Updated

GARNER — A standoff at Garner ended peacefully Friday evening.

Gerald Standbridge, 39, was taken into custody at 7 p.m. Friday. He had barricaded himself in a home for most of the day.

Garner police made phone contact with Standbridge and asked him to go to a window so they could see him. When he did, officers entered the house and grabbed him.

Charges are pending in the incident. Standbridge was sent to the hospital for evaluation. "Earlier this morning we received a call of someone who may possibly be barricaded in the home," says Garner Police Lt. Wayne Moore.

"We know where the location is and we're taking some precautionary measures and setting up a command post, and we're starting to gather information about what exactly is going on inside the home," Moore says.

Garner Police have set up a command post at the First Church of the Nazarene off Highway 70 at Jessup Drive, which is near the Greenbriar Estate subdivision.

Police are stationed at streets in the neighborhood and may question residents before letting them through. -->
