ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — Authorities are making progress in connection with the recent slaying of a Rocky Mount grandmother.

Investigators said Friday they have looking at a potential suspect in the April 27 death of Ellen Sharpe, who they believe was severely beaten and strangled before someone set her apartment on fire.

They have not yet released the person's name, however, in fear that they might tip off the individual.

Police do not believe anything was missing from Sharpe's apartment, and there were no signs of forced entry. Evidence from the apartment was sent to the State Bureau of Investigation crime lab.

Police have not yet released a possible motive for the crime.
