Man Dies in Fiery Crash in Raleigh Parking Lot

Posted Updated

RALEIGH — Investigators believe alcohol played a part in a car crash and explosion Sunday morning.

The accident happened in the parking lot of Countrywood Village Apartments on New Hope Road.

Police say 21-year-old Paul Acosta died when his car plowed into a parked car and burst into flames. The parked car then caught fire.

An apartment resident was awakened by the crash.

"I was just shocked," says eyewitness Michael Johnson. "I heard a crash and looked out my window, and there was a guy in the back of the car and my car was completely in flames."

Police are still investigating the crash.
