Police say a Ford Ranger rammed into the side of a Tri-City cab near the I-440 entrance ramp on Wake Forest Road Friday. A mother and her five-month-old baby were in the cab.
The pickup truck driver took off, then ditched his car half a mile away on the Beltline. Investigators think he flagged down an unsuspecting commuter in a black Toyota pickup.
Police are sure someone witnessed the event.
"The location is a very heavily traveled intersection, and you could tell it was an injury wreck," says Sgt. A.C. Davis of the Raleigh Police Department. "Once they did strike, the cab slid into the pole."
The mother was treated and released. The baby and the cab driver are being kept for observation.
