Paramedics responded to a 911 call for help shortly after 9:30 a.m. Saturday, to 1416 Hibiscus St., where they found Anthony Armstrong in very serious condition.
Armstrong was transported to Cape Fear Valley Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
"He was a good guy -- the greatest guy in the world," says Raheem Flood, a neighborhood friend.
Neighbors say Armstrong had not left his house for several days.
"He didn't go to school Thursday or Friday and he stayed home and stuff like that," Flood says. "He never came outside. He said the last time I talked to him that he was sick."
The chorus of children playing on Hibiscus Street is now missing one voice.
"We're sad. Our hearts go out to the family," says neighbor Tynika McKoy. "He was like a member of our family. These kids all play together and spend the night with each other. He was a good kid. We all miss him."
Armstrong's body has been taken to Chapel Hill for an autopsy.
