Cumberland Deputy Injured in Traffic Accident

A Cumberland County sheriff's deputy was in a hospital Tuesday after he was injured in a traffic accident.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A Cumberland County sheriff's deputy was in a hospital Tuesday after being injured in a traffic accident.

According to Fayetteville police, Deputy Lem Morgan was driving on Russell Street toward U.S. Highway 301 at around 9:35 a.m. when he struck a black Acura traveling straight across the intersection from the county courthouse.

Morgan was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center with minor injuries. The driver of the Acura, Damyko Sellers of Teakwood Drive in Hope Mills, did not need medical attention, police said.

A female passenger, whose name was notimmediately known, was in the Acura and was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Investigators had not determined which driver was at fault, and no charges had been filed.
