Group Which Helps Connect the Disabled with Computers Needs Help

A non-profit group calledVirtual Buddiesgives used computers, free Internet service and training to disabled people across North Carolina.

For many, like Dwight Jackson of Roseboro, the computer is a way to find jobs and go back to school. Others communicate with friends through e-mail.

It is also a way to help and support others with daily challenges.

"It gives them a reason to get out of bed. It gives them an opportunity to decrease their boredom, which decreases health issues," says Kathy Fletcher of Virtual Buddies.

Nearly 200 people across North Carolina have benefited from the program; another 200 people are on a waiting list.

The non-profit group's funding ends in February. They have lots of donated computers and Internet service, but need money for operational costs.
