FAYETTEVILLE — DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) samples are probably best known for helping law enforcement officers as they assemble evidence and track criminals.
But in Fayetteville Saturday, DNA samples were taken from children with a quick swab of a cotton swab.
It was part of a national campaign to educate children and parents about safety.
If a child goes missing, the sample would provide a road map to his identity. The procedure is non-invasive -- no needles and no blood.
Parents can have the DNA samples forwarded to the FBI through their local law enforcement agency.
The samples subsequently would be entered into the FBI's national data base.
