SELMA — A Smithfield man is in critical condition after he was hit by a train Tuesday night.
Investigators are trying to determine why Clifton Franklin Hines, 50, was on the tracks in Selma.
Eyewitnesses say he was walking along the rails, and the train could not stop in time.
Hines is being treated at UNC hospitals.
