Volunteers Still Needed

Hunt's office says the governor will tour a family farm that suffered significant damage from Hurricane Floyd.

Meanwhile, livestock fatalities are now pegged at 30,000 hogs, two million chickens and almost 750,000 turkeys.

And, if you've got some free time this week, your hands are needed.

Volunteers are needed at the Disaster Recovery Center in Rocky Mount. They need people to sort, pack, and ship donated goods to flood victims. Ten to 20 truckloads of donations are coming in every day, and it's more than volunteers can handle.

About 100 volunteers come in each day, but 200 or more a day are really needed.. To volunteer, call 252-972-2007.

Generosity is evident both at Red Cross distribution centers and by way of phone calls to Sunday's statewide telethon.

North Carolina television and radio stations turned over their programming to raise money for flood victims.

The North Carolina Association of Broadcasters telethon raised $2.7 million between noon and 7 p.m.

Monetary donations are still being accepted as part of that effort.
