DURHAM — A case of mistaken identity caused an innocent man to be named as a robbery suspect and the victim of an accidental shooting.

Wednesday, Durham police were in theprocess of arrestingthe man they say was responsible for a number of robberies at Duke University near the food court at Northgate Mall.

Police struggled with the robbery suspect who was then shot in the neck with his own weapon.

Police first identified the suspect as Corinthian Garrett. Turns out, the man who was shot is Imhotep Kedar.

The mistake was not discovered until Garrett stepped forward to clear his name after seeing his name in the newspaper.

Investigators say they will likely charge Kedar with the robberies at Duke.
