Shelter Residents Get No Relief As Rains Rage

People like Rendy Heath have no home and nowhere to go. They have no idea what is in store for the future.

"I don't look ahead right now. I'm just taking it day by day," Heath says.

Tamika Brown says even her current situation seems unreal. "You just can't believe it," Brown says. "It just seems like you're in a dream."

"Some people, especially older ones, they're sitting here and they're just wondering, 'What am I going to do next?'" flood victim Brenda Speaker-Dickens says. "The thing is, you've got your life and you can make it."

"You have nothing, nothing but your life," one shelter resident says.

Shelter officials say they need volunteers to help relieve the workers who have been there for a week. If you are interested, call Emergency Management for more information.

Shelter workers in the area say they also need more bedding to accommodate the thousands of people who are still homeless. Sheets, blankets and pillows are in short supply.
