So much, that they asked residents to cut back usage Friday. Company officials say energy usage exceeds CP&L's power supply. They could have to rotate power outages.
"We would cut off folks between 30 and 60 minutes in one area, then restore them," said CP&L spokesman Mike Hughes. "We'd shut service off to another area for a similar amount of time until we are out of the heat of the day."
To help make sure that does not happen, try some of the following ways to conserve energy:
Set thermostats on the highest comfortable setting; use fans to circulate air and enable the thermostat to be set on a higher setting; use the bathroom exhaust fan while bathing; minimize hot water usage; and put off doing the laundry until after 8 p.m.; keep the shades, blinds and curtains closed over doors and windows on the sunny side of the house; turn off electrical appliances when they are not in use, including computer monitors; use a microwave for cooking rather than the conventional oven.
