3 Dealers Caught in Gun Show Sting

Posted Updated

CHARLOTTE — Gun dealers at gun shows are supposed to make sure their customers have permits for the weapons they're purchasing.

An undercover sting operation at a gun show in Charlotte this weekend proved not all gun dealers are following the law.

Three gun dealers were arrested after undercover authorities bought five high-powered hand guns by simply flashing cash.

"It's not just costing us business, it's costing us our reputation which is what we're more concerned about than the loss of dollars right now," one dealer said. "We're worried about our reputation long term."

The three dealers arrested were charged with selling a weapon without a permit.

Authorities say most dealers are obeying the law.

They are making sure everyone who buys a weapon at gun shows has a permit and undergoes a background check.
