CLINTON — Sampson County investigators think they know what caused an explosion Tuesday night at a historic church near Clinton. They are still trying to determine who is responsible.

Investigators say someone broke a window and stole a gas heater from the Fellowship Hall of the White Oak Baptist Church.

The gas line was still exposed when the hot water heater came on, touching off a spark.

No one was hurt.
