RALEIGH — Carolina Power and Lighthas found a Y2K problem which effects about 23,000 customers.
Certain power meters with embedded computer chips need to be replaced before the New Year.
The problem does not effect power delivery but would impact the company's ability to read the meters and bill customers.
A letter has been sent out to customers who have the meters.
"Customers shouldn't notice any change except a momentary loss of power. The meter itself may look different, but other than that, there should be no change for the customer," said CP&L spokesman Mark Stinneford.
CP&L hopes to have all of the meters changed by the end of September.
