Convicted Killer Could Be Sentenced This Week

Posted Updated

WAKE COUNTY — Convicted killer Nathaniel Fair, Jr. could learn his fate this week: life in prison or death.

Jurors in the sentencing phase of Fair's murder trial could get the case Monday after closing arguments. Last week, jurors convicted Fair of the stabbing death of Wake County educator Reubin McNeill.

The jury deliberated two days before returning with afirst-degree murder conviction.

McNeill was stabbed 15 times, and his body was abandoned in a lot near Meredith College.

Fair was sentenced to life in prison in South Carolina, but was released in 1992 after serving seven years for a conviction of first-degree kidnapping, first-degree sexual offense and common-law robbery.
