Special Olympics Tickets On The Way

RALEIGH — Opening Ceremonies for the1999 Special Olympics World Summer Gamesare little more than a month away. Some of you will soon be getting tickets.

Special Olympics athletes, volunteers and staff helped draw tickets Sunday for 3,000 seats open to the public.

Interested spectators sent in applications for tickets. Those whose names were drawn will be notified within the next few weeks.

Organizers say they are almost ready to let the games begin. "We're very excited about where we are from a planning standpoint," says Special Olympics Organizer Paul Velaski.

"We're just under six weeks away, but with the help of our sponsors, with the help of the community, the volunteers, the state government, we are very, very close to being ready," he says.

The commemorative tickets were also unveiled Sunday. Those can be purchased at the World Games Festival and other venues during the games. The largest sporting event of the year starts June 26 and ends July 4.
